🙋FAQ
Do I need a subscription to use it?
Yes, the Clash client only acts as a generic network kernel (like an airplane engine) and needs to access remote configuration or node information (runway) to achieve specific network connectivity functions. It does not provide any server resources itself.
Can discontinued clients still be used?
Although old versions (such as Clash for Windows) can still run, it is seriously not recommended.
- Security Risk: Discontinued versions have known security vulnerabilities (such as XSS risks) and may be used to scan local ports.
- Protocol Lag: Does not support next-generation anti-fingerprinting protocols, traffic characteristics are easily identified and blocked.
- Poor Compatibility: TUN mode may fail on newer operating systems (Win11 24H2 / macOS Sequoia).
Is there a difference between Tun mode and system proxy?
- System Proxy: Only takes over traffic that follows system proxy settings (mainly browsers). Command line tools, games, and some instant messaging software usually do not follow this mode.
- TUN Mode: This is a virtual network card technology that can take over all network layer traffic at the operating system level (including ICMP Ping, UDP game traffic). If you need all software to go through Clash, you must enable TUN mode.
Why is the configuration imported successfully but unable to connect?
Common reasons include:
- System time out of sync: Many protocols are extremely sensitive to time errors, please calibrate system time.
- DNS Pollution: Used ISP default DNS. It is recommended to enable Fake-IP mode in client settings or specify secure DNS such as 8.8.8.8.
- Kernel version too low: Your subscription contains new protocols (such as Hysteria2), but the old Clash kernel does not support parsing. Please upgrade to Clash Verge Rev or Mihomo kernel.
Are Clash and V'PN the same thing?
Essentially different.
- V'PN is usually a global tunnel based on virtual private network technology, focusing on privacy encryption.
- Clash is a rule-based shunting tool. Its core advantage lies in "on-demand connection" - for example, designate access to Google to go through proxy, and access to Baidu directly. This intelligent routing mechanism is more efficient and flexible than traditional V'PN.
